Commission #6: Safari Cake

Filed under: Cake Pictures, Commissions, Safari Cake — Crazy Amy at 8:24 am on Saturday, September 30, 2006

For my first cake commission in Washington, DC, I was asked to create a safari themed cake for the 4th birthday of a little boy. His aunt was buying the cake for the boy as a present as he had specifically requested a cake with jungle/zoo animals on it. Below is the sketch followed by the final creation. It’s a chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream filling and vanilla butter cream decorations. The animals are made of fondant rather than gum paste so they could be eaten by the kids if they so desired.

Not only was the cake beautiful, it was delicious!!! Seb made us take the animals off and keep them. He wouldn’t let anyone eat them!
